Apple has a history of criticizing competitors’ tech and then later doing a 180 and adopting it themselves seemingly completely “forgetting” the earlier marketing messaging.
Remember things like.. “my thumb goes from here to here” iPhone 5 ad, implying competitors like Samsungs “phablets” were unpractical and oversized… Fast forward to iPhone 12 Pro Max 6.7 inch model 🙂
2020 – “Apple isn’t racing to compete with Android phones that cram in more megapixels” … Fast forward to 2022… “Pro’s wide camera to 48-megapixels, a huge leap from the 12MP cameras the company has relied on for years.” …
2010-2016 – “LCD is superior to OLED” … 2017 Apple introduced OLED on its most expensive model.
And the list could go on…
Despite years of resistance, Apple is now working on adding touchscreens to Macs, according to a report today from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The report claims that a new MacBook Pro with an OLED display could be the first touchscreen Mac.
Gurman said Apple engineers are “actively engaged in the project,” indicating that the company is “seriously considering” producing touchscreen Macs. According to the report. iPhone and iPad apps are available on “ios”-Macs though, unless a developer opts out.
2010 – “We’ve done tons of user testing on this, and it turns out it doesn’t work. Touch surfaces don’t want to be vertical. It gives great demo, but after a short period of time, you start to fatigue, and after an extended period of time, your arm wants to fall off. It doesn’t work, it’s ergonomically terrible.”
