Apple seems to be adding yet another Operating system next week.. The Apple eco-system is getting more and more fragmented, frustrating many developers that would like Apple to provide a better and more open developer experience for cross-platform development.
Apple currently has no less than 7 Operating system versions of their forks of BSD/Unix. macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, audioOS, and bridgeOS… Next week the xrOS will be added to the fold..
Why fragment the market even more? Why not try to simplify and remove unnecessary overhead? Maybe the answer lies in Apple’s paranoia and silos of different business units? Who knows. The only thing we do know is that Apple should really get its act together in AI and 3D before plunging into VR equipment.
