Another technology used in Xiaomi, Samsung, and Huawei phones to place lenses horizontally inside the phone with a periscope design to provide greater focal length and optical zoom, is among the new parts Apple will source as well for iPhone 15.

The problem with this technology-catchup-game from Apple is that the reference goalpost is moving further away when new phones like Xiaomi 13, Vivo V27, galaxy s23, OPPO N2 flip, realme gt3 are already out providing higher quality parts and technology at an even lower price point than Apple. More RAM, faster charging, more and better AI, better screens with the less screen-obscuring front-facing cameras, and bigger, better, newer camera sensors from Sony, in-screen fingerprint tech. all things Apple must try to implement a year or two from now, but won’t make it in iPhone 15.
