According to parts makers for the new $3500 Apple VR headset (the one with a two-hour external battery pack and ski-mask design), production is expected to be about 150,000 units. This is disappointing for most vendors who were anticipating high-volume orders for components from Apple.

Rumors are already circulating about Apple scaling down production until they are able to design a model at a more reasonable price point and with a better, more user-friendly weight and design.

Some pundits believe that Apple will acquire the company X-Real, which produces simpler but more convenient and better-designed AR glasses using a more conventional and lighter approach, already priced at $400
