Apple lets store employees test buy-now, pay-later service

Apple has expanded its internal tests of the “buy now, pay later” service to include several thousand retail employees.

It is the company’s employees who are behind the data, reports Bloomberg News.

Apple reportedly contacted them this week to test the service, which is formally called Apple Pay Later. In the past, Apple’s office workers have been allowed to try the service.

Apple Pay Later was first announced last summer and was scheduled to be released last September. But the launch was delayed until 2023 due to technical challenges, according to Bloomberg.

Apple has declined to comment.

Buy now, pay later is a popular payment method among young people, where you split the payment over a longer period of time interest-free. Several fintech companies offer this opportunity, including Klarna, which was one of the pioneers in the field.
